HOW TO USE TURCO 6879-LT

Application Procedure:

  1. Outline the area where the coating will be removed. Apply duct tape approximately two inches outside of outlined area. Apply double sided tape (carpet tape) over the duct tape for a plastic liner to be later placed and secured over the treated area.
  2. Cut a section of plastic liner large enough to cover the outlined area.
  3. Saturate cheesecloth with the stripper. Apply the moistened cheesecloth over the area where the coating will be removed. Ensure that saturated cheesecloth is in contact with the coating. Place the plastic liner over the entire area and secure seal in place with the double sided tape to prevent evaporation of the stripper. Allow the chemical stripper to remain in place undisturbed for a minimum of 16 hours. NOTE: It is very important to allow the chemical stripper to remain intimately in contact with the coating for a minimum of 16 hours for the proper coating removal process to occur.
  4. Remove the plastic liner and cheesecloth, and discard in an appropriate hazardous-material container. Scrape the softened coating off the substrate using a Plexiglas scraper. Discard the removed coating in hazardous-material container. NOTE: If coating is thick or recalcitrant due to long-term environmental exposure, a second application of chemical stripper may be required to completely remove coating. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if necessary.
  5. Thoroughly clean stripped area with isopropyl alcohol, followed by a thorough cleaning with high-pressure water. Thoroughly clean again with isopropyl alcohol following the water wash. NOTE: Thoroughly cleaning the area with isopropyl alcohol and water is very important to ensure that all of the chemical stripper is completely removed prior to application of the final finish.
  6. Completely remove existing primer by scuff-sanding using abrasive cloth to ensure that any residual stripper that may have permeated through the primer is removed.
  7. Clean abraded area with cheesecloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
  8. Apply finish per T.O. ()1F-16 (CJ)-23. If urethane topcoat is applied in lieu of the rain-erosion coating, all of the leading edges (horizontal and vertical stabilizers) should have the 2-inch wide rain-erosion tape applied with the appropriate color-matched edge sealer per T.O. ()1F-16 (CJ)-23.

Rinsing: Rinse with high volume, high pressure cold water or steam.
